What should I do when I become a Dental Assistant?

I am about to graduate soon and I will be continuing my education to become a Dental Hygienist. School will be full time @ community college, getting my prerequisites out of the way before I enroll into the hygienist program.

I also have a young son and I am a single mother. His dad watches him while I'm at school. Is there something I can do one or two days a week that might make me some money while I'm still at school? Maybe there's some task that dental assistants can get paid to do that I should know about?

You are about to graduate from the Dental Assisting Course, correct? Why did you go through the course if you didn't intend to use it? Did you change your mind and then decided to go on to Hygiene school? I guess I'm confused, but here is some possibilities to help while you finish the rest of your education.

Check into dental laboratories in your area. Check into offices that work late hours or weekends. Finding a part time assisting job, may be easier in an office with these types of hours. You could take over when the other assistant had to leave or couldn't work. Do you have a dental school close by? Maybe they need assistants or office help.
Reply:You could call around to local dental offices to see if they need any help in their offices with filing charts, sterilizing instruments, breaking down and setting rooms back up, seating and dismissing patients, pouring up models from impressions, and just anything else you can do to help lighten the load of the full time assistants since they work their tails off day in and day out. Plus, they have to put up with the dentist all day long, so I am sure there is some office in your area that would welcome you in to take the load off of them.
