My friend who is [almost] 17 just got a job as a dental assistant! wtf?

I am serious. She just got a job as a dental assistant and she's still in high school! I know for a fact that she's not lying but that was a major shock for me. She is smart but people actually go to college to be a dental assistants. She gets $10 per hour which is a lot.

I'm majorly pissed off because my mom makes $6.50 and my dad makes $13 per hour. They work their as*ses off from 5 am to 9 pm just to pay for bills! They had no money for college and when they were young, living in Europe, they were not allowed to go to school.

Would you be angry/mad/pissed off if someone who is not qualified to do a certain job was hired by someone?

Dental assistants make a lot more then 10 dollars an hour. She might be a receptionist.
Reply:A lot of Dentists like to train their assistants to their qualifications.

I am interested in your post because you seem to be pissed at your friend for landing a great job....and seriously, what do your parents have to do with it? I think that you should be happy for your friend; if she is not already qualified, she soon will be.
Reply:Wow. I mean DOUBLE WOW.

What is your problem????

Is it easier to bellyache about someone else who is doing something positive than it is to look at your own situation - honestly?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to hand a dentist tools or to hold a suction tube, for goodness sake!

Honestly... whatever is wrong with your parents - that's their deal. Not yours. And definitely has got NOTHING to do with someone you know who is doing something that you are jealous of for some reason.

Whatever is holding you back (that has got you so angry) is a problem that squarely sits on your own shoulders.

I strongly suggest you breathe.... think about what you really want for yourself... and then start taking small steps to become/do what you want.

It's difficult to be successful hanging with idiots or with people with crap attitudes. Start there.

Make decisions that help you in your journey... instead of ranting about someone doing well... take that energy and decide what you want for yourself.
Reply:Maybe she's considered a dental assistant which is technically not a Dental Technician or Dental Hygenist. So she may be telling the truth, but she doesn's clean teeth or assist in oral surgeries and such, she probably stocks supplies for the examination rooms and such. No one would want to let someone with no experience or college training be responsible for someone else's teeth. Think about it. I give her "Kudo's" for finding a job like that not a job at a food chain of sorts like most kids first jobs usually are. Be happy for her and maybe you'll find something equally as good if not better. Think positive!
Reply:Why would you be pissed? I would ultimately be happy for my friend. There are different reason employers hire people, and many hire based on personality and willingness to learn, not necessarily how much they know. Sometimes employers feel more comfortable with on the job training rather than having hire someone who went to college (and paying a lot more!) because there are somethings you don't learn in school.
