Question for a Dentist or a Certified Dental Assistant.?

Hello! I have been a dental assistant now for 5 years with the same dentist. She has trained me and I also went to a class and became a certified dental assistant. (West Virginia) My question is, what exactly are certified dental assistants allowed to do and not allowed to do?? I feel there are things she has me do the Im not even supposed to be doing. Please help!!

You probably are allowed to do alot more than you think.
Reply:Contact your state board or even your district dental society. In Florida both of these places will give you a list of what you can do. If your doctor is having you do illegal procedures the doctor can be fined. The doctor can even have his/her license suspended. These laws are for the patient's protection and if you are being required to perform illegal services you should report the doctor to the state board.
Reply:It varies from state to state. Some states let assistants do a lot and some are very restrictive. If you are concerned ask the doctor you work for about it. Or you can look up the Dental Practice Act for your state; it is usually available on the State Dental Board website or the State Licensing website.
Reply:You need to go on your state's government website and read under board of dentistry laws. If you have a question you need to READ about the laws. Or call the program you graduated from and ask them for advice.
