I am considering on taking an Intra Oral dental assistant Level 1 and II course, but I've been hearing mixed reviews on the type of salary they make. If you are in the field, would you be able to share with me what your salary is, and the area you work in? Thanks for all your help
Intra Oral Dental Assistant in Toronto, Canada?
You may want to consider something more important than salary when considering school for this position. Are you sure you want to work in the dental field? Do you know anything about this position? Do you enjoy helping people? This isn't just an ordinary job, salary won't make the job worth it, you must really enjoy helping all people, be able to work on anyone with any problem, no matter how bad it may smell or look. I've seen many young girls go through the education portion and drop out once they are actually working in the field. Try to visit your dental office to actually see what the work is like by observing, it will give you an idea if this is for you, or not. There is much more to dentistry than simple fillings and cleanings, get an idea of what it is all about before you commit to the school or training.
Reply:Hi, I am a level 2 dental assistant in London Ontario, but i do know the rates for toronto.
I work in peadiatrics, they started me right out of school at $12, when i left after 4 years i was making $18.
I think $15 or $16 an hour is probubly average.
There is really no oportunity for advancement and alot of dental assistants end up becoming dental secrataies.
I have not worked for about a year (iam home with my kids)
But there are other courses you could take that would make your more money by the hour, I would only recamend this if you really like teeth.
Be a dental hygienist they make good money.
You can also go to USA or BC, dental assistants there make alot of money because they are in high demand.
hope this helps
