I am looking for a career change and would love to be a dental assistant. How hard is it to get a dr. to do on the job training? What is the pay?
Dental assistant training.?
i was fortunate enough to get on the job training to be a dental assistant. Look in your local paper and see if there are dentists that are hiring, with no experiance necessary.
When you first start out in the field you will be not making much.. however after a few years it will pay off. Of course the more certifications you have.. the more money you get paid.
good luck
Reply:depending on your state some Dr.s will hire you without experience, but if you get a degree you will start out with higher pay....average starting without a degree is $8-$9 depending on the Dr. with a degree $13-$15
Reply:i started out on the job making 11 dollars, after doing some training and getting one of my certifications i make 17 an hour. with all of my certifications i could be making more. start out in an office for training and they may pay for you to go school. alot of dentists will train with no experience, but will want you to at least get an xray certification.
Reply:You may be lucky enough to find a Dr. who will train you on the jo; but the laws are changing. In Texas, for example, the assistants now have to have A radiology certification and pass a jurisprudence exam. I just moved to Las Vegas, where there is no such limitation as of yet, but I do have to take a certification examination.
I went to American Trades Institute (ATI) in NRH, Tx. It only took one year, three months of which was spent in an office to get a feel for real-world training. I'm glad I went the school route.
