Both careers are supposedly in demand and yet I only see employers seeking dental assistants on job search websites. I want to complete a degree in dental hygiene but I don't want to get out of college to find that I can't get a job. Dental hygienists earn more than dental assistants but is being a dental assistant the best choice (considering that it will be easier to find a job as a DA)?
Would it be better to get a job as a dental hygienist or a dental assistant?
You need to determine the needs for the area you plan on living. In this area there is a significant shortage of hygienist. Hygienist are more autonomous and make more money.
Reply:Correct me if Im wrong..but if your a dental hygienist..you learn the same things as a dental assistant (but a hygienst get more indepth and advanced training)..so if you go to school to be a hygienist..you could probably be either a Hygienist or an Assistant..depending on what their hiring!
Reply:Best place to look to compare salaries, working conditions, loads, etc, is www.lmi.gov, choose the occupations and compare them. Good luck!
