Dental Assistant?

To be dental assistant do you need to go to college

Dental Assistant?
nah.. i was a dental assistant. its a bs job because most of the time you sit your *** at the receptionist desk and answering phone. the rest is that you help out your private dentist who hired you. the wage is 10 bucks and its so dang low. later, i quit. rite now, i am making 17-20 bucks and i dont go to work most of the time and i still get paid.. this week i am getting my 800 buck check without even landing a step into the company... LOL
Reply:Some places will train you, others will require that you go and get the certification from a local community college.

Hope this helps.
Reply:In NY, if you work for a dentist for 2 years, consecutively, you can take the exam to become certified. Otherwise, you would have to go to school. You do not need college credits.

If I had the opportunity, I would go to dental hygiene school ( 2 years). The average pay for a hygenist is $50-60K, depending on where you live. Average salary for assistant is $25K.

Something to consider....

Dental Assistant?

Im finishing school soon as i was just curiose to see how dental assistant was for a career . i dont want to go to school again for a very long time just want something i can do with a specialty school, any ideas?

Dental Assistant?
im going through school my self for dental assistaing and every dental assistant i have spoke to that has been in the practice for over 10+ years LOVES it! They say the pay is great for only going to school for less than a year and the weekends off + benifets are awesome! So i believe were going into a good field! GOOD LUCK!!

Dental assistant?

I am currently taking a dental assistant course thru penn foster. And I want to know if there is a way I can work as a medical receptionist or something until i get thru the course. I have had previous education in the medical feild. I was in school to become a medical assistant, but i had to stop half way thru due to my pregnancy. I need to know what i can do to get my foot thru the door in the medical feild. What should put on my resume, anything, would be greatly apprecaited! Thank you

Dental assistant?
Sure you can - my sister in law worked as a receptionist and billing clerk until she received her board certification.
Reply:I've heard that unfortunately employers don't really find those 'online schools' or correspondence schools to be reputable curriculums. I believe that most employers would want the person to have actual clinic experience that a county vo-tech school or community college can provide. Though perhaps you can call around to the local dental offices and ask about that schooling and if they have any openings for a receptionist or billing clerk. I've also heard that there are not too many jobs for medical assistant just btw, perhaps since there are so many programs out there who are graduating students causing a saturation in the field.

Dental assistant?

how do i go about getting into the dental assistant field, and what is the standard pay rate for a dental assistant?

Dental assistant?
Research your local Community College. Usually you can apply for admission to a Dental Assisting Program at the CC. And you'll most likely get in because all CC's have "open-admission". You can register as a part-time or full-time student.

Dental assistant?

I'm trying to get into the dental or medical field as a new career. I would like to you if a dental assistant would be better than a medical assistant.

Dental assistant?
I am a CDA as well. I was going into the Navy as a Corpsman which is a medical assistant but they did not have any positions open. I was introduced to the dental field instead and I love it. I just got out after being in for 7 and a half years and will soon be working as a CDA in the civilian sector. In the military I was expanded function qualified which means I was able to do everything the dentist did besides prep the tooth. I placed the rubber dam, filled the tooth, took impressions, xrays, and I also cleaned teeth and talked to the patients about their oral health. I am not able to do as much now because of state laws but it is still a great job. I am going to school right now to get my Bachelor's in Dental Hygiene. Just make sure that you are able to deal with working in the mouth. I have seen so many people become dental assistants and later realize they could not deal with spit or teeth that can be rotten. I feel this job is very rewarding and I worked at the front desk for a little(by my choice), but always I assisted the dentist.
Reply:Don't worry I am older as well. I went into the Navy when I was 25 and I am now in college at 32. You will just be more focused on your goal and it will come a little easier I am sure. Good Luck! Report It

Reply:I was 24 when I went into school to become a dental assistant. And as a mother of a 7 year old, I completely felt old compared to all the 18 year olds. I have to say that it was a breath of fresh air to see older adults in my classes. :) Report It

Reply:Hi, I am a CDA, and yes dental assistant will be better than medical assistant and pays more. Dental assistant involves taking X-Rays, setting up for procedures, assisting the dentist in the procedures, and taking impressions. I been a CDA for 7 years now and now am going to dental hyiegine.
Reply:there is no difference between them, because you gonna end up as a secretary in front desk. it's better to look for something serious and don't be a victim of smart names or title for sheep price for 8-10$/HOUR. GOOD LUCK
Reply:Excuse me that's not always true. I'm only a senior in High School and took some courses at Bryman. I'm a Medical Assistant and I LOVE it. I get paid $15.00 an hour and $17.00 on weekend. I work 6 days a week and only 3 hours a day and four weeks in a month (duh!) My check comes out pretty good. It's not whose better than who and so on it's what you want to do. You can tell them you're unsure an experience them both for a while and see which one YOU like most. I want to be a Ped. so o course a Medical assistant is better for me. NO one is better than anyone. Doctors depend on us and dentists depends on you people. My boyfriend is a dentist and they are in high demand he say's as so are med. asst. So, overall health career is great we will always need them both until the end comes. Do what you think is best and as for the whole dental asst. gets paid more as if please. I make more than most of the ones my boyfriend hires.

Dental Assistant?

How would i go about becoming a Dental Assistant?

Would i need to take special classes for it or will the Dental Office just train me? Also, would it hurt to email local Dental offices asking if they need a Dental Assistant?

Thanks in advance!

Dental Assistant?
What state are you in? Depending on your location, you may need to be certified/licensed to take xrays and perform expanded duties. If you go to www.danb.org, you can find specific info on the laws for your state.

For entry-level assisting, you can be trained OTJ or take classes.

I would suggest personally visiting local dental offices instead of emailing them...then you may be able to speak to someone directly and get some guidance on how you can persue this career.

Good luck to you!

:)
Reply:you can go to your local community college and see if they have the program which should be like 9 months also you might want to check ROP since a Dental Assistant program would get you your x-ray certificate among other certificates but you can also go to dental offices and talk to the dentist or office manager and express your interest in the field and your willingness to learn and become a dental assistant and hopes that they will train you. You will need your hepatitis shot series.
